The High Performance Leadership Program

by Brian Gowans

As you progress from Competent to Advanced Leader to Distinguished Toastmaster, you will come to High Performance Leadership, a step-by-step program which practices you in advanced leadership techniques.

You will learn what leadership is, and what is known by the six dimensions of service leadership: Vision and Values, Direction, Persuasion, Support, Development and Appreciation. Once you understand these a group evaluates your leadership actions as you cover a specific project.

First you choose a project, (personal, company, or in Toastmasters), where you have to exhibit leadership skills getting other people to work with you, e.g developing a charity program or training course.

Next, your vision and mission statement is presented to your Club, and feedback is given. Form a team, create an action plan, decide roles, goals and timetables. Your action plan is written down, presented to your Club and evaluated by your Evaluation Committee.

You are then monitored as you work the plan, encouraging those who are working with you, monitoring the progress, dealing with problems and managing conflict. The final stage, once you have completed your objective is to collate and present your results to your Club in a formal presentation that is evaluated by your Evaluation Committee.

The High Performance Leadership task requires effort and dedication, but when you achieve your objective you feel that you have learned a great deal and developed leadership skills that you can use in the future.
